WEEK 2 - The Workshop Machines


The start of the Saw Stool

After completing the timber joint exercise, the students are now trying their new found skills on making a Saw Stool.

Wednesday morning students started measuring, cutting and machining their timber to fit the right size from the cutting list in the portfolio.

They used 3 workshop machines to complete this task.
1. Radial arm saw
2. Table saw
3. Thicknesser


The students were inducted with Health and Safety of the machinery and the operation of the machines.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO TURN ON THE DUST EXTRACTOR WHEN USING THE MACHINARY, THIS PREVENTS DUST AND WOOD CHIPS CLOGGING THE MACHINE. THIS ALSO PREVENTS CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE MACHINE AND TO YOURSELF.

WEEK 1 - My First Post

 Monday, March 7th.
Waiting for my first students to arrive this year 2011, class list was given out and headed out to the canopy to calling the new students for this year. Humm... interesting bunch.
  
1. The first destination was the Red lecture theater for induction by The Student union.
2. Meet Colin O'gorman and Daniel Fuemana the ing technique .
3. Tool Shed Guy (Ross) induction in the course tool kit.
4. Meet the theory room 84. Introduction to carpentry course, Moodle, blogger and CCA1 ethics.

Tuesday, March 8th.
I.T Login and Password.

Wednesday, March 9th.
The start of the joint exercise in the portfolio, Awesome start attitude and great work from all students.
Theory from 1.15 to 4.30 at room 84. Probing for knowledge and experience in Moodle and Blogger.

Thursday, March 10th.
Practical all day completing the joint exercise. Awesome work attitude and very hot workshop.

Friday, March 11th.
Theory, overview of the first assessment and how to find resources. Probing for knowledge and experience.
Practical, finishing the joint exercise and Student doing awesome and getting use to the different tools.


Setting up Google blogger this year for the first time and sorting out how my students will use this tool as a e-portfolio.

1. Opening and blogger account by going on to my blog site and press FOLLOW.
2. Must use your Correct name for recognition.
3. You must FOLLOW yourself
3. INVITE ME TO YOUR BLOG SITE FOR MARKING.
4. Blogs must be of course work.
5. Blog must be entered every week and labeled Week 1. and Title of what is happening that day or week.
6. This is a visual communication media, so use photo's to explain your work.
7. You can choose to share or keep private with others.


Your blog page must be completed in two weeks and up and running. you can customize it as you go, but you need to start blogging your work.

Get the FOUNDATION RIGHT and the rest will fall into place!


D12 Reinforcing rods and square links are used to form a square cage to hold and strengthen the concrete footing in one piece.


A trench is dug out for the footings and framed with boxing timber to contain the concrete pour. This will also form the shape and correct size of the footing.


The concrete is poured and screed flush to the boxing timber, this achieves a smooth flat surface for the timber sole plate to sit on. The Timber sole plate is bolted into the concrete footing.
